Foo Fighters Pretenders

What we had to do?
What we done to make this animatic is first watch the music video Pretenders by Foo fighters. Then we found out how long each camera shot was and did a rough sketch of the image of the camera shot. After we did a quick sketch of each image we wrote what type of shot it was and thought why they used that particular shot then and what the effect is.

What we learned by doing this?
By doing this we learned that music videos have a lot of different shots and angles in. Also that when the beat picks up so does the camera shots as at the start of the music video we it was slow and the camera shots were longer between 4-10 seconds but when the beat kicked in that was when the camera shots picked up there was a different camera shot every 1-2 seconds. We also found out that at the beginning of the music video it was like they were introducing the band as first was the singer then the guitarists and finally the drummer, then the beat started.

How is it different from filming thriller ?
It is different from filming a thriller as with a thriller when their is tension rising they only use one or a few long shots where as in a music video when the beat kicks in they use loads of really short shots.

Purpose of a music promo video

The purpose of a music promo video is to get publicity for the song so more people will listen to it or buy it. As the video gets more publicity the more money the company will make off the music video. This is the main reason for a music promo video to make the company earn more money.

Music videos are only one part of a multimedia campaign and is just one way that a song is promoted. The music industry has a wide with a number of different media. A song can be promoted from many different types of media these include films, radio, television and even games. Film is a very beneficial way of promoting a song as many songs that have been in movies have earned quite a bit of money as if a person is watching the film they will probably like the song so will go and listen to it or buy it. The same will work with the music video as people would listen to the song and if the song has images or clips from the film people might think the film looks good and go watch it.

A good example of this is Bryan Adams Everything I do from the movies Robin hood Prince of thieves which was at number one for 16 weeks in the UK singles chart and has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide. It was written by Bryan Adams, Michael Kamen, and Robert John Lange. It is one of the best selling singles of all time, also the song and the film would 'feed' off each other as people who liked the song would often go and watch the film and people who watched the film would go and listen or buy the song. This made the film and song very popular and made both lots of money. This song has been at the top of the charts for the longest to date only just beating love is all around by 1 week. The song used dissolves to change from the band to the clips from the film.

Another good example of this is Wet Wet Wet Love is all around which is from the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. The song was originally performed by the Troggs and was written by the a band member of the Troggs called Reg Presley. Then in 1994 the band Wet Wet Wet covered it for the soundtrack of Four weddings and a Funeral. The song topped the UK singles chart in just under 3 weeks which was fuelled by its appearance in the movie and it stayed at number one for 15 weeks and is the second longest stay at the to of the chart to date the only song beating it is Everything I do by Bryan Adams. This song used mirrors in their video to either show the band or clips from the film. This song did basically the same as Everything I Do with Robin hood the song and film kept feeding off each other.

Different types of music

Artists can be divided into 2 clear categories organic and synthetic.
Organic
The term organic is used when music comes first to the band and they make the kind of music that they want to make by writing their own music and play instruments. organic music can appeal to small groups of people but can also appeal to mass groups of people too. For example The Beatles.
Synthetic
The term synthetic is used when music producers put together a group of people who never met and make them a band. Also the band don't write their own songs play or play their own music. An example of a synthetic band is The Monkees.
